The Municipality of M’lang, located in the southwestern part of Cotabato Province, was officially established on August 3, 1951, through Executive Order No. 462 issued by President Elpidio Quirino. It was formerly part of the municipalities of Buluan (now in Maguindanao) and Kidapawan, which has since become a city.

Strategically positioned, M’lang is bordered by the City of Kidapawan and the Municipality of Makilala to the east, Tulunan to the south, Matalam to the north, and the Province of Maguindanao to the west. It spans a total land area of approximately 41,191 hectares, or 411.91 square kilometers, which represents about 6.35% of Cotabato Province’s total land area. Today, M’lang is composed of 37 baranggays.

From its beginnings as a forested settlement and migration hub, M’lang has developed into a vibrant and progressive first-class municipality. Its growth is reflected not only in its population and economic activity but also in the strength of its local government, which currently has 194 plantilla positions supporting the delivery of public services.
