MLANG, North Cotabato(Mindanao Cross/March 29)--The municipal government here has temporarily closed it's public cemetery due to congestion and to pave way for it's development as a memorial park.
Mayor Joselito Pinol said the local government unit has purchased a two-hectare lot intended for the expansion of the public cemetery and allow more constituents to bury their dead there.
Pinol said the LGU has shelled out at least P5 million for the construction of the apartment type tombs and bone nets for constituents who want to avail of the cemetery facilities at less cost.
Century old tombs in the old cemetery will be demolished and the remains will be exhumed and transfered to the bone net arranged alphabitically, Pinol added.
"We are doing it to show to our departed that still they are important to us," the mayor said.
Pinol said the public cemetery development is expected to be completed in May. (Williamor A. Magbanua/MindanaoCross)
