Crocodile wildlife center pushed in NorCot

KIDAPAWAN CITY, May 8 (PNA) - - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 12 is pushing for the establishment of a Crocodile Wildlife Reservation Center in M'lang, North Cotabato.

Engr. Tungko Saikol, DENR-12 director, said the center will be built in the marsh area of Barangay Dungguan, where Philippine crocodile “Malang” was captured by fisher folks.

Malang, an eight-footer Philippine saltwater crocodile, was subsequently released on May 2 after his capture some two weeks ago.

Saikol stressed that awareness and education initiatives would be conducted to strengthen the community involvement in protecting Philippine crocs in the

Liguasan Marsh, a 22,000-hectare wetland bordering the provinces of North Cotabato, Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat.

M’lang Mayor Joselito Piñol has committed his support for the project, in the pursuit of his vision to make Liguasan Marsh in Dungguan, a tourist destination. (PNA) FPV/NYP/JOHN ANDREW G. TABUGOC/
