Flash floods hit Mlang low-lying villages

MLANG, North Cotabato(NDBC) - - The light to moderate rainfall Tuesday night in Kidapawan City and Mlang triggered flash floodsthat submerged up to knee-deep several low lying villages here.

Ferdinand Pinol, Mlang town administrator, said residents were awakened by rampaging waters that entered their homes late in the evening.

The floods also reached portions of the Matalam-Mlang highway until 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Pinol said the villages of Lika and Labo were severely hit by floods after rice fields were also submerged by flood water. Some of thefarmers are to harvest nest week.

“There could be huge damages to agricultureal products but as to how much, we are still consolidating data from the affected farmers,” Pinol said.

At least 13 of 37 barangays of Mlang are prone for floods because of its proximity to two huge rivers of Mlang and Malasila.

These villages served as catch basin of flood waters every time heavy down pour occur in Kidapawan and Makilala.
