MLANG, North Cotabato -Hundreds of senior citizens from 37 villages here actively participated in the launching of the Senior Citizen's week celebration highlighted by a parade around the town on Wednesday morning.
Mayor Joselito Pinol, in his message, acknowledged the contributions of the senior citizens in making the town of Mlang more progressive and firmed despite various challenges encountered in the past.
"Your contributions in the development of our town is worth emulating. This is the legacy you will be proud of to your children and even to your grandchildren," Pinol said
The mayor also announced that the monthly pension of the elderly is due for release in the second week of October.
"May ara naman kamo inugbakal sang bulong" (You can now purchase your medicine)," he said, eliciting laughter.
Each of the pensioner will receive P1,500 for the 3rd quarter.
Meantime the Rural Health Unit (RHU), through Dr. Glecerio Sotea, MD, town health officer, announced that free medical examinations among elderly in various barangays of the town of Mlang will be conducted effective Thursday.
Dr. Sotea said medical team will be sent to villages to check the health conditions of the elderly.
The RHU will also distribute vitamins and medicines to senior citizens even for those are not registered with the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA).
