Lookout in Dec. 31 blast in Mlang Cotabato killed in Pikit explosion

KIDAPAWAN CITY -(www.gmanews.tv) A lookout in the gruesome bombing that killed two people and hurt more than 50 innocent civilians at a public market during New Years’ Eve in the town of Mlang, North Cotabato was killed in the premature bomb explosion in Pikit town in January, a local official said.

He was said to be among those killed in the premature bomb explosion in Pikit town in January 2015, a military intelligence officer told Mlang Mayor Joselito Pinol. Photo courtesy Mlang PNP

Mlang Mayor Joselito Pinol said an intelligence official from the military told him that one of the suspected bombers was killed along with his companion while in the process of transporting a 60-mm improvised explosive device (IED).

Pinol said the military intelligence officer whom he did not identify informed him that the computer-generated artist's sketch matches one of those killed in the Pikit premature explosion.

“I was informed by our sources in the military. Actually they asked for the artist sketches of the December 31 blast that is why they compared the identity of those killed. And one of them matches with the suspects,” Pinol told dxND Radyo Bida here.

The mayor however did not name who among the two suspected bombers killed participated in the deadly Mlang blast.

“We will wait for the results of the investigation. Soon the military will identify him once everything is in place,” Mayor Pinol added.

Pinol however assured the families of the victims in the twin blasts in Mlang that the local government unit and the police as well as the military are doing their best to put the perpetrators behind bars to give justice to those who have died and those who were wounded.

“While there is report of the alleged killing of one suspected bomber responsible for the Mlang blast, we will continue our tight security to prevent a similar incident from happening in our town in the future,” the mayor said.

“Let us not lower our guard. Let us unite to protect our beloved Mlang,” Pinol said. —KG, GMA New
