North Cotabato town mayor vows to push total firecracker ban

M'LANG, North Cotabato - Mayor Joselito Piñol on Friday vowed to push for a total ban on firecrackers in the town this year.

“Personally, I recommend that firecrackers should be banned and no more explosions on Christmas and New Year. We can rock and roll to the world without injuring and endangering our children,” Piñol said.

This, after the local government recorded 11 firecracker-related injuries, mostly due to piccolo, from Dec. 25, 2015 to Jan. 1, 2016.

“We did everything to educate our people, but it seems some constituents refuse to learn,” the mayor said.

The youngest of the firecracker victims was 11 years old and the oldest was 59 years old, who both suffered injuries in the hands due to piccolo.
