MLANG, North Cotabato—The Local Government Unit (LGU) here has strengthened their tax collection campaign, going after delinquent tax payers particularly owners of business establishments inside the town’s public market.
Mayor Joselito Piñol said he has ordered the closures of at least 16 stalls inside the public market and within the terminal area for failure to renew their business permits.
“We are forced to do this in order to sustain development in the different villages of our town,” Mayor Piñol said.
Last week, the mayor together with treasury office personnel and members of the local police went to the public market and padlocked the stalls.
Mayor Piñol said their arrears and other obligations due to the municipal government should be settled first before they are allowed to operate again.
The treasurers’ office has yet to collect some P500, 000 from the owners of the padlocked stalls, Mayor Piñol said. The mayor called on business owners in Mlang to promptly pay their yearly obligations so that their business operations can continue without any impediments.
