2 MILF groups fight over land in Mlang

MLANG, North Cotabato –(Mindanao Cross) — At least 120 families composed of 309 individuals who were displaced in the recent fighting between two groups of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Barangay Dugong here refused to return to their respective homes, citing unstable peace condition in their area.

Mayor Joselito Piñol said the evacuees preferred to stay in the village hall at least few kilometres away from the fighting area than to return to their respective homes to ensure the safety of their families and farm animals.

Piñol said the evacuees left their place after two warring MILF groups traded bullets over a 10-hectare parcel of land claimed by both MILF commanders.

According to Piñol, the fighting was reported Friday afternoon of last week which lasted Saturday morning, sending the residents in the area into the nearest barangay hall for fear to be caught in the cross fire.

He said the fighting erupted when Commander Gani Saligan returned to the village and reclaimed the 10 hectares of land which was cultivated by the group of Commander Isabel Manuang.
