"I graduated because of your taxes," IP certified accountant says
MLANG, North Cotabato — (NDBC/October 18)--Dedication and strong determination.
Catheryn Canete-Formanez of Barangay Magallon passed the Licensure Examination for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and became the first IP resident of this town to become CPA for the past 63 years.
Formanez is a pure “lumad” who belongs to the Kaulo tribe that usually lives in mountain tops.
She was a consistent honor student during her elementary and high school days and graduated on top of her class while helping her parents attend to their small rice farm.
Armed with unusually high grades, she confidently applied for the scholarship grant from the Local Government Unit (LGU). She took the qualifying exam easily and earned the respect of screening committee that gave her the go signal to pursue education.
She took up Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSC) and graduated cum laude in March 2014.
“Thank you for your prayers and encouragement. I owe this success to God and to the people of Mlang because of their taxes paid to LGU, I was able to pursue my college education,” Formanez said.
Harold Santillan, LGU scholarship coordinator, described Formanez as hardworking, dedicated to her studies and persevered to achieve her dream of earning a college degree.> Add a comment >

Mlang's senior citizens get 3rd quarter pension from DSWD
MLANG, North Cotabato - About 684 senior citizens from Mlang's 37 villages have received their third quarter pension amounting to P1,500 each on Tuesday.
Cynthia Biag, municipal social welfare and development officer (MSWDO), said DSWD regional office 12 has facilitated the release of at least P1,026,000 for the elderly in Mlang.
Biag explained for the elderly to qualify as beneficiary, they must be 70 years old and beyond and their names should be included in the list of the National Housing Targeting System on Poverty Reduction or (NHTSPR).> Add a comment >

OMI-founded parish turns 66
MLANG, North Cotabato-Thousands of parishioners from various villages here trooped to the Sta. Teresita Church as the parish founded by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) in 1949 celebrated its 66th year of existence on October 6.
People coming from all walks of life actively participated in the fiesta mass—bannered by the theme “Sta Teresita sa imo pagtoo nga mabinungahon sa layko, inspirasyon padulong sa katilingbanon nga Diosnon,” officiated by Fr. Carlito Garcia, DCK the diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Kidapawan.
